Service Corporation International (SCI) Corporate - Payroll Systems Analyst in Houston, Texas

Overview & Responsibilities

Serves in a technical capacity to support the various payroll functions, assisting with investigating and resolving payroll related technical inquiries or issues.


50% Technical

  • Troubleshoot, analyze and resolve issues presented by associates or other functional areas using knowledge of WorkDay payroll functions, and coordinating/communicating with other WorkDay teams as needed

  • Conduct full root cause analysis on issues and recommend potential process improvements

  • Investigate and propose solutions and improvements to processes and programs within WorkDay

  • Serve as Project Manager on project related requests which require new functionality or modifications to payroll related items within WorkDay

  • Process and reconcile payroll related file imports

  • Process prior pay period adjustment requests

  • Assist with testing WorkDay system releases

40% Support

  • Monitor and manage case tracking system (HEAT) incidents for the Payroll Systems and Support team. Ensuring correct assignment, SLA’s and back up procedures are followed.

  • Document issues and solutions on payroll teams Wiki page, as well as ensure adequate communication of problem resolutions

  • Provide ad-hoc reports to various levels of management

  • Serve as backup for the Payroll Support analysts

10% Process Improvement

  • Recommend and participate in the development of new functional processes based on previous resolution of issues

  • Proactively identify departmental process or procedural obstacles and make recommendations for resolution or revision

Requirements & Qualifications


  • Some college coursework


  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience

  • WorkDay experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent communication, customer service and analytical skills

  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly and be a creative problem solver

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and meet changing deadlines

  • Understanding of a large volume payroll and HR processes
